Hi all

recently signed up as I picked up this cabriolet about a week ago. I've had vw's for years but this one has definitely put a smile on my face.
Its a 86 1.6L

I have a few question to ask so i'll be in the tech section later.

Cheers D

Cheers lads. I does look nice a drives nice too. Few electrical issues like the dash lights and dodgy stereo wiring but I'll get onto it soon.
I've had air-cooled cars for years and this is the first proper water-cooled I've owned. Guess what the first thing I needed, a thermostat!

Funny need a new thermostat, good time to change the coolant, what colour is it?
If blue I've been using this stuff for a few years, 5l is plenty and it's ready mixed, you do need the change it every couple of years, don't forget to move the heater control to hot before draining the system.
Make sure your new thermostat comes with a new O ring, if not they are available from Euro for a few pence.

Use there discount code to get it cheaper.

Yes I changed the coolant mate as it was a bit brown. It had Sat for 8 years until the previous owner got back on the road.

Also if changing the thermostat if it has the plastic holder get a new one, the plastic ones warp and once removed never go back correctly. If it’s the old type metal ones should be fine.

Just wanted to quickly say hi and welcome to the club first of all.

Cracking looking Cabby you've got there mate and it's Alpine White (I think) which is always a winner in my book. I know the weather is not great, I live in Austria but do post up some more photos for us please, we love photos!

Do please look at the benefits of becoming a fully Paid Member of the club, there's so many to list but suffice to say you can save a pack on parts, tires, hoods, car insurance and let's not forget the Club Shop.

All of that and you get discounts on tickets to various events including our now famous AMG each summer and with access to the 'Members Lounge' on the forum.
