Fitting exterior window scrapers on a Cabriolet

Post

I have a Cabriolet. I have a set of replacement window scrapers (for the door windows) that I'm planning to fit in the next week or so. Before I set to it, is there anything I need to know? What will I have to do? Can the old ones simply be prised out and the new ones pushed into place?

I imagine this will be very easy, but thought it'd be worth checking first.

Thanks!

I suspect it is what type of scrapers that you got.

I just had to pry the old ones out of the latches, rolling the front windows down all the way helps you to see the clips.

Clean the old rails after you get the Scraper off.. Clean it well, and let it totally dry.

Then the 2-way sticky tape is good, but can get contaminated by fingers so I placed it on the rubber then stuck it on.

The rears were a pain in the posterior as the window doesn't roll all the way down.

There's a couple of designs on the market.
Some have a metal spline that runs down the middle others don't.
But as Briano points out wind the windows down.
They are held in place by metal clips that are slotted into the door inner.
Just be careful you don't pull them out.
Iirc if they pop out you can use extra long thin nose pliers to pop em back,
You'll see how it all goes together once you take the old ones out.
If they are ill fitting afterwards check that the spline bit is actually in the clip slot.
I've done that before.
Have fun

Cheers

OK - thanks for the pointers. The replacements are from VW Heritage, I think. I got them from a seller on Facebook who hadn't used them. I'll go slowly and see how I get on with it…

I would be interested to hear how you get on. It's a job I have to do and like you imagine it should be straight forward but know it's probably going to be harder than it should be…

Thanks for the help with this - I got it sorted at the weekend. I didn't bother with sticky tape as it didn't seem to make much difference on the front ones. I'm wondering whether that was wise. Everything went smoothly - one clip popped out, but it stayed attached to the old scraper so I was able to push it back into place (with a loop of thread on it, just in case I dropped it). It's a lot easier on a mk2!
