Golf is needing some love

Hi guys,

I own a MK1 1.8 8v GTI cabriolet, she has been messing me around for a few months now.

Electrics and engine needs a good look at because she runs like a pig when she first starts in the morning (sounds like she is firing on 3), after about 10 seconds the engine is working perfect…. but if the engine gets hot and you turn the engine off she wont start unless I hold her on the key for about 30 seconds! The electrics in my car have always been dodgy and I think it needs a re-wire.

I need a competent mechanic or VW specialist does anyone know of one around my area?

Thanks in advance

Hey, thanks for this but looking at the site and how far they are away it's just to far to go.

Sounds to me from the symptoms that you have an issue with your WUR (warm up regulator) - or Kjet fuelling as I had similar myself.
Try disconnecting the plug to the WUR / car will start rough… and over idle - but if if you switch off the engine when warm and it starts straight away it would point to the WUR.
I'm not that far from you in Carshalton - if you don't want to drive to Crazy's (recommended) and would suggest you speak to Darren at VW Enterprise. VW Enterprises Ltd | Specialists in VolksWagen & Audi - south London.

Also worth reading this thread:

Maybe able to help you more… may also have some spares, but will need to root about in the garage now I don't have a 8v engine…
Good luck!
