Rally Golf Progress... Flares

Hi gang,
(Not sure if this belongs here or in the "Modification" forum - Andrew please feel free to move)
Progress has been slow over summer, but I hope to get the cage fitted this month. While I am waiting, I thought I would try to get the "group 2" flares fabricated. The plan is to have two sets of guards, one with flares for "classic" rally comps and a second set without flares  for "production car" events.
This is what I am aiming for

They were originally made by Zender but they don't list them anymore so it is going to have to be a DIY exercise.
I just wondered if anyone on the fourms had flares fitted to their MK1s (DubBoy??) and if they did, what are the chances of some photos or even better paper-patterns???

Charles.

Does look hot!!!
I up-sized my original image so you can see the differences between the tarmac and gravel spec cars. Love that ground clearance!!

If I cannot get any closer than pictures I will try to fake the patterns myself - still it dosen't hurt to ask

How about these. Pricey but may be worth it…. (providing he'll sell outside Germany)

Man that's just cruel  :banghead: Lots of Eruo and stuck in Germany :(
Still, does this mean that they are still in production somewhere?

These extended arches require running gear modification i.e. extended track width, so that excessive bearing wear isn't an issue! Not just a case of firing on wide wheels. The cost of the track kit is well pricey 1200 euros or something, plus the cost of the arches and wheels! Expensive mod.  Just something to keep in mind.  Cheers

Not a track project

Sorry, I should have given a little more background to the project
I am building a Group 2 Golf Rally Car replica, the flares are a part of the "look" of the group 2 cars, but since I intend to make it a "removable" feature (so that the car - minus flares- is elligible for Production Rally Car class) the track will not be extended to take full advantage of the extra width. That said having full suspension travel at lock will be nice (and save the damage of ramming the wheel into the arch when encountering that large rock mid corner - been there, done that).
So thanks for the thought, but I am really looking more for something like the Zenders in my original photo than a full track-day, ground-effect kit.

BTW "wide" tyres are a definate no-no on a rally car unless running on sand. :P

May have found something...

Pictures of this green (frog) MK1 have been turning up regularly, but I finally tracked down the source.
http://www.rheila-golf.com if anyone is interested.
