My new ride...... 16500 original miles.... a lucky find....

Here's my new ride……..
It's a 1976 1.6 CL in Marino Yellow. It's in pretty good shape and has covered just 16500 miles from new  8O
It's never been restored and incredibly was bought and owned by the same guy for 35 years  :o
.

.

.
It still has the dealer supplied radio in place…
.

.
And has it's original stamped up service book, instruction manual and brochure as well as many old tax discs, bill of sale, warrenty etc etc  :)
.

.
And even still has the original 'running in' sticker in the window  :o

It came with the dealer supplied leather key fob….
.

.
And still has the VW dealer sticker in the back window…..
.

.
Apparently the dealer is still going strong which is cool  :)

Crikey, where'd you find that?

1983 Mars Red 1.8 Golf GTI
1987 Alpine White 1.8 Clipper Cabriolet

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

Cheers guys  :)

I'm new to the watercooled side of things (I'm also an aircooled fan) and admit I'm no expert on Mk1's. It's a steep learning curve but one I'm enjoying  :)

Now I'm 45 and officially an old man I can now read Classic Car Weekly    along with the aircooled mags I read. I spotted it in the small ads and within 2 hours I was at the guys doorstep

That is a really nice car.  Love the colour.

Mine is also from Drift Bridge Garage, same owner since 1980 (until I bought it recently).  Must be something about Drift Bridge sales!  Also has an original key fob, not as nice as yours but has a little bavarian type guy on it (also on the sales receipt).

I wish mine was in as good condition as yours, but it needs a fair bit of restoration :(

Cool cartoon on yours mate  :)  Hark at us discussing keyrings

I was chatting to the general manager of Drift Bridge on the phone today, they seem like a nice bunch. I'll have to have a cruise over there sometime  :)

I'm 45 at end of month and worry that the day after I'll be nearer 50 than 40   But I still can't drop on something like that, was it bargain?

Yeah……50 here I come

I think it was a decent price but I'm not really up on the market? Enthusiasts I've spoken too seem to think I did ok.

In the brochure that came with the car, you could of opted for an orange velour interior too, imagine the orange overload

Thanks  :)  I'm not really sure just yet. I'm hoping to take it to the GTI Festival at Santa Pod on Sunday though. I've been going to VW shows and festivals for over 25 years but this would be my first watercooled meet  :)

The VW main dealer in Surrey who supplied the vehicle has shown an interest in the Golf and asked for a few more photo's so I've just popped out into the country to get a few more…..
.
Original number plates with the seperate digits riveted in place…..
.
Couple of small dings in the front valance….
.

.
Dealer supplied Wolfsburg logo mudflaps…..
.

.

.

.

.

.
A few small areas of paint missing here and there but not too bad…
.

.
Original tool kit still intact…..along with colour code sticker and QA inspection label……

I saw your new golf when it was advertised, if I had the money I would have brought it for what it was priced at.
It looks to be in brillant condition, best of luck with the golf.
also I spotted a ZXR750 in one of the pics, I had one of those.

Thanks mate. Well done for spotting it's a ZXR too. Only just got it back on the road and it's great fun. Obviusly doesn't handle like a modern bike but it's got loads of charisma :o) What model, cc was yours?
