STANDARD GTi FRONT & REAR SPRINGS

Post

Members - can you help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My '83 GTi Campaign has lowering springs fitted, and want to restore it to standard springs. As you know - all the main new parts suppliers sell a "one spring fits all" - clearly not suitable for the GTi.I am trying to wade through the minefield of VW paint marks............  Looking at the parts list 53511105A looks like the correct item
22531511105Acoil spring; GOLF GTI;2
531511105A 9522 paint marks; to use for:; yellow paint marks; yellow; 2; RABBIT GTI;; SCIR.
531511105A 9533 paint marks; to use for:; yellow paint marks; yellow; 3

Volkswagen classic parts can supply  531 511 105 A 952 ?????  whats the difference???????Likewise upfront
171411105G 9511 paint mark; to use for:; blue paint marks; blue; 1,2; GOLF GTI
171411105G 9533 paint marks; blue

Again Volkswagen classic parts can supply  171 411 105 G 953 - but is that suitable???????????Any advice would be very greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm pretty sure these will do you.
They have the correct tapered wire as well.

The company will just supply the springs if thats all you need.

bilstein springs

I need to add that I've never tried them so cannot fully vouch for them but have spoken with the company and he assured me they are right for the GTI

nedd - I could be tempted in this if cdgthreesalmons  doesn't want it.

Is it still looking good after storage? Is it springs and shocks all round or other parts as well?

For those interested I have been sent the following email from Bilstein in Germany regarding GTi springs:

Dear Mr. Wilson,

Unfortunately we have to inform you, that we produced the BILSTEIN B3 replacement
springs only for the standard suspension.
The VW Golf I GTI has a sport suspension, so that the BILSTEIN B3 replacement
springs are not compatible for your vehicle.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen / Best regards,

So contrary to some companies advertising on well known auction site: you CANNOT get Bilstein replacement GTi springs.

Hmmm, damn it I was kind of relying on them for future projects.

I bought the B12 kit for mine a few years back which came with Eibach springs

When I was doing my research back then I did talk to a company who was in the process of remanufacturing GTI spec springs - I'd have to dig around to find out who as can't recall off the top of my head!

old thread I know, but…

I recently bought some allegedly standard springs made by Lesjöfors from autodoc.co.uk, £23 each, Part Number #4095007, which they claim is equilant to 171411105G.  The box says "Coil Spring Front VW Golf 1.6-1.8GTI/ CABR / SCIROCCO GTI" so I'm hopeful that they are the correct part.Haven't fitted them yet.

The Cabriolet is heavier than a Tin-top no matter which type, which is probably why they say the springs won't work on a GTI (Vert) and may work on a tintop GTI.

I know that my fronts are 4 dots white white white orange/brown?  From the etka.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

BTW Should there be rubber pads either side of the spring? The parts catalogue seems to show :
171 411 139 Underlay for coil spring (upper)
171 411 140 Underlay for coil spring (lower)

I think these are missing from the aftermarket struts on my car - do you know where I can buy them?
