Right front wheel is hard to turn after over haul..

Post

Hi,

I have changed new complete drive shafts with CV joints, new wheels bearings and brakes. The problem is that the right side gets harder to turn when everything is bolted up compared to the left front side. There is no problem when the drive shaft is loosened, it gets easier to turn by hand, more compareble to the left side.

Is there any way that I could have over tigthned the locking bolt for the drive shaft? If I have read the instructions correctly the torque should be 240Nm/177 ft.lb.

The thing that makes it even more strange is that it gets extra hard to turn in a certain area of the complete 360 degree rotation. This goes away completely when the drive shaft lock nut is loosened.

Any tip is much appriciated!

The car is Golf mk1 Cabriolet -87 with manuell transmission.

If you replace the CLip on the CV (inside) and it's ears are too long then when you tighten the nut, the wheel won't spin.  Some kits I have purchased have the improper style of clip.  You clips should have the "short" ears.

Bad clip in front, proper clip in rear see the size difference and that is all it takes.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

Thanks for the reply! I have now double checked the clips and its the correct one installed. After I took it for a short drive om the parking lot the problem is gone. I have no idea what caused it big its gone now... :)
