Rear Brake Overhaul

Nearly There!

Evening guys, hope everyone is enjoying their weekends. Quick one regarding my rear brake overhaul which I started today. I ordered a kit from VW Heritage and set about replacing the shoes, springs, piston and drum. After replacing said piston, assembling the shoes and springs and connecting the hand brake cable (something Rubiks should invent as a puzzle haha) and bleeding the system I hammered in the bearing races (after an overnight in the freezer) into the drum, no worries there, greased them up fitted the bearings and attempted to fit the drum on the rear axle.

That's when it threw me as the drum wont fit over the new shoes. They don't have much more pad on them than the ones I removed, certainly not enough to stop the drum fitting. I tried a slight fettle with a nylon hammer to move the set up but to no avail. My only thought is that the hand brake may need backing off slightly but its got dark now and I need a Strongbow! Any thoughts fellas? Any advice will be greatly received as I only have tomorrow to get it all sorted before I'm back to work and its stuck on axle stands on the drive!
