power steering in R32 conversion

Post

Hi guys, got an R32 with 6-speed in my golf. Anyone know if powersteering will still fit with this setup? Anyone done it before?

Which type?,  if the electric motor epas type then the rack stays as normal.

I was thinking hydro. But I guess an EPAS one only messes with the steering column, huh?

Exactly, I used to have a tsr bluebird rack conversion, and it does obviously take up more space, but I cannot comment on it fitting with the v6 engine as I have no idea.

Fair enough. Wonder if anyone has done hydro power steering with the R32 lump

You might just be the first.

Haha, trendsetting. I'll have a look at some EPAS systems. Any advice?

No advice, but I only know of 2 epas systems, Crazy quiffs which I thought used the corsa c system, and is the more expensive, and the easy steer one which uses the corsa b system, and is the one I have, although I haven't tried it yet.

Power steering?  Who needs it think of the arm reps that you will get parallel parking the ride….. you will be looking like "Popeye" in no time, and your Chest will be 3 sizes larger by Christmas.  :)

You might be right. I took the car for a spirited drive the other day and did appreciate the connection to the wheels...

I know that when rebuilt the front end, (inner/outer) tie-rods ball joints and struts on my 81, and widened the 13 inch tires from the 155 to 175, the way it handled on the road was amazing... If I had only added sway bars...

Yeah the car handles well, but over and uneven surface the hard suspension does make it feel quite skittish! And with 270hp under the hood it's on the border of truly scary!

Did you get any further with this mate? I'm thinking about this at the moment whilst it's all stripped down.

Do you think it has a heavy steering, if so, it could be the scrub radius maybe? I don't find my R32 mk1 to have hard steering, and I think power steering will only make the car more "skittish", because you loose a bit felling with the connection ?

How is your wheel geometry setup ?

Do you have swaybar in front? I don't, i thought the added weight would do the trick..
