Lifting a rabbit country style

Post

I have an 84 diesel rabbit. Wanted to lift the suspension a little bit so years ago I purchased Bilstein HD struts and found a set of used passat springs. The passat springs fit the front strut just fine and lifted the car an inch or two, however I could not figure out how to mount the rear passat springs on the strut with the hardware I had at the time. Seems that I need a slightly larger diameter coil spring seat to accommodate the passat spring. I'm preparing to replace all upper strut mounts on the car and would like to get this sorted at the same time.

There used to be an aftermarket provider of a spring assister over here, the "Helper Spring" tied from the axle Square on the rear to the body hold on the rear apron of the car via an adjustable link.

It prevented the Droopy or saggy rear-end when loaded.
Since I was using this Diesel Bunny as a work car, with about 300 lbs of load I bought a set and installed them.
I could put 3 adults in the car with out it sagging and it drove down the road just fine.

You may have to go with Coil overs or buy a new set of Golf Springs.   If you haven't replaced the rears yet, then your in for a treat as they tend to rust weld the lower mounting bolt in to the rubber bushings sleeve, and I have had to use a sawz-all/hacksaw to cut the bolt free to allow the strut to drop.

Possibly going back with a pair of passat rear struts may work.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.
