Car is now back on the road, coilovers are coming off, as I don't want it low - how time changes…. 200 miles of tame use
I've been looking at the GTI Koni Sport Kit / Adjustable with H&R Springs .. Koni's seem to get a good rep, and the adjustability will let me firm it up if i feel inclined .. But I'm after some real world experience on them recently - Quality still as good as ever?
Or adjustability bit of a fad … just go with Bilstien's and Eibach springs
Then when looking there seem to be two 'full kit' options 1140-5403 or 1140-5304. Only difference being rear load ratings up to 571kg or from 571 … stiffer springs ? Can't imagine a mk1 having over half a tonne in the rear as it is
Then finally, as I'm on coilovers I seem to have ditched all OEM suspension, are they the full strut get-ups of shock inserts, I only seem to find generic pictures!
Any insights welcome
Cheers,
Adam.

Front: 8641-1048SPORT
Rear: 8041-1101SPORT
Mines a cabi, but I thought tin-top was the same ones.
The fronts are insert dampers so you will need strut housings.
I've seen a couple of people say there weren't too keen using them with the H&R springs. I'm using Ebachs.
I'm afraid I have no driving experience as yet - haven't got it on the road at the mo. Build quality seems very good. Bit of a fan to install.
You can adjust the front in situ, the rears have to come off.

Had seen the same regarding H&R Vs Eibach, they seem to market them as a new thing so wasn't sure if there was some recent change … I doubt it mind
Ahh ok, makes sense I know you can buy the shocks separate, had hoped they were like the B4 Struts you can get which are full Struts with seats for the springs
Cheers,
Adam.

Here's the inserts:
A bit of the pain in the ass, but you can get the old ones to match quite nicely:

Out of interest which paint did you use for the colour match?

OBTW if you drizzle a modicum of oil between the insert and the strut tube you get a better Transfer of heat from the insert to the tube, and the inserts tend to last longer….
What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?
They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Like the powered coat, but I think I would of masked off the threads….. they are a big enough pita (pain in the posterior) to get on and tight without the addition of the Powder coat…. But I do like the shine…..
Good point - it was PITA to remove.
I got them powder coated before I received the shocks. I was following a Koni guide that was old. It used a method of a bolt through the bottom of the shock, rather than thread at the top - hence why I didn't cover the thread.

Koni specify coolant for that.

Coolant as in A/F may rust the tubes internally, ATF or a Thin 10wt clock oil won't.
