I am trying to find a poly rear gear box mount for my GTI Rivage

polybushes, where to get them?

Hello all!

I discovered that my rear engine gear box mount is completely gone, so it is time to get a replacement.

I found the correct looking one on VW heritage, but in the description it does not cover my car (1991 GTI Rivage Cabby). So I am a bit confused… The picture looks the same, but maybe it might be wrong?
The other problem is that I want to buy the poly bush version of it, to make it a lot more durable. VW heritage stocks a few of them, but not the rear gearbox mount.

Has anyone got any other sources for such parts?

I would avoid poly bushes for engine mounts as you can get extra vibrations and noise through the car as they are so stiff, if you want to upgrade the bush go for one fitted to diesel cars as they are slightly harder than the standard bush.
The rear bush does not take that much punishment and you may find the one fitted to your car is the original bush so it's lasted for a few years.

Times 3.  I would never do Poly for any engine mount, as the poly's can and will fail, and when older they "powderize".

I have had friends in the past go poly only to regret the Teeth Rattling, vibrations at idle.  Never on a diesel….. well you usually do it only once… :)

There are ways to beef up the "regular" mounts to keep them in position when they do go bad, and that too can cause a higher than normal vibration of the engine to frame transfer.

when i put the 16v in my cabrio I used good used oem side mounts, a new diesel rear mount and a front poly mount. good compromise, the engine didn't rattle the car to death, but it was also kept reasonably still in the bay on heavy acceleration by the poly front and diesel rubber rear :)

I had a complete poly kit back when gsf used to do them cheap, i only used the front mout in the end the rest i sold on! I tried the poly rear top mounts thinking they might help stiffen the softer cab rear, but I hated them so they went quicky on the classifieds. wishbone bushes are ok poly, but i managed to score some cheap new ones with new bushes on so fitted those instead. the suspension was new oem oil filled sachs/boge make shocks all round, and standard mk1 GLI springs. it handled like it was on rails :)

I went for the Diesel mount! This was very valuable advise! Thanks so much for that and sorry for my late reply, it too me quite a while to get it sorted :)

This was very helpful advise!thanks to you all!! :)

But from what I can read it seems to be okay to poly bush wishbones etc… As I did want to do that as well to get the drive a bit stiffer than it is…

To improve the engine torque thing, using large Washers between the Cup and the frame to push the cup and mount to the engine and stiffen it.  It is a cheap fix, to stop excessive engine torque loss…. Old racing tip I learned many a year ago.

I personally don't like poly, when they go bad they powderize where as rubber just gets less stiff.

It is all personal preference…..

I firmly believe that friends don't let friends use Poly Bush's or use Fram Filters.
