Front struts have vertical play?

Post

Jacked the car up today to adjust camber bolts and found the front suspension strut has vertical play and moves up/down slightly.

The top nut inside the strut housing is as tight as it can go. I've seen you can buy these spacer washers - do I just need to put them under the struts top nut to pack it out?

Do I need any washers, etc, or will these spacers under the nut be fine?

For what it's worth, the suspension has no play under weight of the vehicle, but I don't like to imagine what'll happen if I hit a pothole with the play in the front struts!

Those spacers are part of the strut top mount and should already be fitted as standard...not to solve any problems..

Vertical play, as in how much?

Under the nut on the top mount, there should be a washer and a Bushing.  This bushing can be to high and you will have a few MM of play, this bush should be no higher than the upper plate.

You can also beef up your mounts with 3m window weld or use a rubber oring to extend the life of the mount.

Ah, okay! Think I'm missing the washer that goes under the nut then! It's about a quarter inch of play, not a lot. Will add a washer and check the sleeves are also present/flush. Thanks all!
