Coilovers suspension

I'm toying with the idea of getting collies for my cabby as they are not badly priced at the moment.
However while it's on its std gti suspension if I have to people in back (adult and child) and toddler up front it bounces about and if I hit a dip the rear wheels rub.  Now will the coilovers stop this yet be lower. As I also have a mk4 golf which is lowered all the way down and with 3 in back and Mrs up front it doesn't rub atall seems as solid as steel.  Will the cabby be the same. I don't want to buy it then find they or the car unusable or unbearable to drive

My cabby came with coil overs and the back is a bit bouncy but the wheels don't catch at all. It does have to be quite a big dip though.
I just put it down to the age of the car and not having modern suspension (I know nothing about suspension though) therefore I call it 'part of the charm'!

The BBS have probably got a slightly lower ET than a standard wheel but probably not much. I found when I ran Porsche wheels on my gti cabby that they rubbed  occasionally but on closer inspection I also found that the lip of the plastic arches sit beyond the edge of the metal arch so I ground the plastic back to meet the metal arch underneath and it just made enough difference to cure the problem. If your not sure just jack up the back wheel on each side to see the area of contact.

Depends on how low you set them up, and how much money you spend, ie if they have adjustable dampers.

Ok well I run joms on my mk4 and I personally think they are great. Not wanting to slam the cabby just about 40mm

But if you set them so they don't rub you may need to find a chiropractor

Is it that bad in a cabby

It's that bad in any car when you restrict the amount of suspension travel that much, not on general roads but like you say when you occasionally have someone in the back and hit a bump that weight wants to make the suspension travel and if it's so hard it doesn't then it's going to be a bumpy ride

my car came with some cheap coilovers fitted, the ride was pretty bouncy. I fitted some coltech extended top mount and it has made the world of difference. almost stock feel

hardest part was finding a place to align the wheels properly due to the drop and the alignment tools hitting the arch.

I'm glad to hear that as I'm in the process of making some, here's one I prepared earlier

Yes the coilies will be a firmer ride and stop the bouncy rubbing you have now.

Put your hand in your pocket and buy some bc's. Body adjustable and hugely adjustable damping.

I’ve got BC racing coillies on my cabby. Running an abf and 16” Seat alloys and big brakes.

No rubbing, very comfortable - adjustable.

And, I’m a fat sod!
