Cabby as parts car for tintop

Post

I bought a tintop shell a couple of months back with plans to get it on the road for next year show season (Very optimistic i know)

Im slowly coming to the realisation that's its a massive job and im going to need a parts car i have come across a cabby with a 20vt in it but its a cat c from a couple of years ago (Makes it easier to strip in my head) to use as a parts car but how many of the parts will i be able to use wiring loom, column pedals brake master etc etc what can be used and what isnt transferable

My tintop is a 1983 driver and the cabby is a 1985 gti

I have some parts for my tintop fuel tank all basic running gear no drive shafts limited interior parts probably will use bucket seats eventually but what is useable and what isnt so i can get an idea of if it is a worth while investment?

a lot of it is the same, but a lot of it is different

everything underneath will swap except the exhaust and tank pretty much. wiring looms are similar but there are differences in the rear loom as it has no rear wash/wipe and small rear lights, the switches can differ on the dash but just use the cab ones if they do and sorted.  the engien loom is worth checking over, as some guys are not as good at splicing wires as others…

however, what engine are you actually planning to fit into the tintop anyway?

the big block clocks read different to small block, but if you're going 20v then the  old speedo cable will work with the cabby clocks, though it'll probably already have the right cable on it anyway

fuel wise if its a GTI that is ideal as it will have all the bits to convert your carb tank to fuel injection
