VW heritage fuel tank

Post

Any views on the VW heritage fuel tank for a tintop 1.8?
I've seen it states it's not baffled and just wondering if anyone had fitted one and encountered any problems? Or if they are a good reliable replacement?

Baffles just keep the Fuel from moving away from the Pickup tube under high speed or Harsh Turns.

The Baffle was a Circle or Fence around the Pick-up tube to hold fuel

Don't high speed turns, or this when you are 1/4 or less, and it shouldn't be an issue.

I converted one of my Cabriolets to a Single in-tank, and only when I got down to 2 gallons, did I notice any issues with stalling,,,,,, well lets say my Daughters who didn't want to gas up did.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

Waste of time if it's for a gti.  Constant fuel starvation issues which will help knacker the pump.
There are companies out there that can refurb the inside of the original tank which is what I will have done on both of my gti's

I'd fix existing or find good 2nd hand original. I had a right 'mare with a pattern replacement (not form heritage though). Car cut out after about 5 miles, due we think, to vacuum/venting problems. Was not due to lack of baffles as did it with 1/2 full tank on level straight roads.

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

I fitted a baffled GTI tank from Heritage to my 1.8GTI last year and have had no fuel starvation issues as yet. I do get a whoosh of air venting out of the filler cap when I remove it after a drive. Not sure if this is normal or not, it seems some cars do it and some don't! The swirl chamber is not as good as in an original tank but good original  tanks are getting hard to find. If you can get an original tank or get yours refurbished then that would be the best option but a VWH tent should be okay. My tank was absolutely knackered and beyond repair. The return pipe fills the swirl chamber in the pattern tank, which I don't believe it does on an original tank and I think this is why i don't get any fuel starvation problems. Good luck with it.

maybe that last line is key, when refitting level sender be sure the return pipe is inside the pattern baffle (and is there!)
