Throttle body strip and clean

Post

Ive stripped down my throttle body whilst the engines out for a degrease and paint as the linkages and nuts etc are all rusty so they are getting yellow zinc plated

I want to get the body and the inlet manifold both back to an original nice aluminium colour, not polished or sprayed silver. Any suggestions or cleaners/methods to get its looking factory fresh?

Engine Degreaser, and a Brass Brush on a drill as well as a Brass Tooth Brush.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

Will a brass brush on a drill not have the same effect and polish it?

This was done with a grey scotch wheel on a cordless drill, was previously polished 448AB416-1B43-4F19-B0EE-3BF2C22D006D.jpeg

Only option I know of is soda blasting. Gets the much off but doesn't leave a polished surface.

My rebuild thread I will try and keep up to date: here

After you get it all clean, take a fine mist spray bottle 1/2 with your favorite protectorant, and 1/5 with distilled water….Spray the entire engine with it, close the hood and wait over night…. that is what the above picture is an after.

I have been reading about soda blasting as a non aggressive way to clean up parts. Im going to check around if anywhere does it.
If not the scotch pad is a good idea aswell Jake.
Whats a protectorant Brian?

Thanks for the pics and ideas guys

Soda blasting is good, I did a lot of motorcycle parts when I rebuilt one a couple of years back,  carbs were done and then just refitted without any further work needing done to them.  It's cheap and easy to do if you have a compressor, but a little messy, as with any form of blasting!

i have a compressor, just a handy small one from machine mart. What kit do you need to soda blast with a compressor?

Just a Schultz gun, an empty coffee jar to hold the bicarbonate of soda and a big cardboard box to blast your parts in. You can buy 25kg bags of bicarbonate of soda from these animal feed shops for a lot less than Amazon / eBay etc. (£12-15) Use a pair of latex gloves & a pair of work gloves to protect your hands whil holding any parts
Degrease & dry your parts then go for it, it’s that easy!
