k-jet pressure test kit

Opinions please!

I need to run the pressure tests on my Cabby GTI to chase down a fuelling issue  My mechanic friend doesn't have the right test kit, so looking to buy my own. The Sealey and S-P kit is serious money. I have found these which claim to be suitable for k-jet:

Anyone got any experience of either of these, or can recommend an alternative that won't break the bank?

And I have just found this one which is only available from the US:

which looks a bit more specific and seems to get more online mentions on US forums for k-jet vehicles (VW, MB, Porsche, etc).

all you need is a suitable gage, some pipe and a tap. easy enough to make up from a kit of parts,

If you pull the WUR line off your car and take to a local hydraulics fitting place they'll be able to join the kit together for you.

thanks for that. I wasn't sure about the ebay all purpose kits, but will give one a go. It is frustrating that the purpose made k-jet kits only seem to be available in the states - and they want $100 for shipping and customs on top of the price of the kit, and a 4 week wait. Funny you mention a local hydraulics place, as I visited one yesterday - they mostly do motorsport - and today they quoted me £170 for a kit to be made up. I know Crazy Quiffs used to import a kit, and from what I found online, they looked like the JC Whitney kit, which is NLA. There was also a Porsche 928 specialist who used to supply them, but gave up as supply from the factory became too erratic. Given there are so many cars still around that use k-jet, who would think they would be so hard to get!

I have a kit but the seals have gone - which means it leaks fuel when its connected up - I am sure the seals are pretty easy to obtain. But without a K-Jet car, I could replace the seals but have no way of knowing if its fixed the leaks. Would you be interested in it?

In fact it gets better - I've just had a look at it, there's a number of adapters and on only one of the adapters has the seal gone. There's at least 4 other adapters with unused seals, in perfect condition, so its just a case of swapping over the O-ring from one of the unused adapters to the one for a VW (unlikely you'll ever use the others, etc).

Need to make one to, do you guys think a regular central heating gauge will suffice? Or does it need to be a specific "fuel resistent" one?

Has anyone bought a kit off ebay (there seem to be plenty)and if so, which one?
Looking at most of them, I can't see how they would connect into the fuel system as they talk about shraeder connections (which k-jet isn't) or they look like push fit rubber hoses and jubilee clips which I'm not convinced would work with the pressure. (I remember years ago trying to replace a pipe to the fuel pump with rubber and  jubilee clips - went everywhere!!)

The ebay ones and most others are no good for K-Jet. Best to go for a K-Jet specific kit, put out a call to see if a member has one they want rid of. I got mine from a member. I think new ones are still available new in USA.

as long as you find right type fittings with barbed ends and use quality rubber hose + pipe clips you can make up your own lines.

I had a NOS VW pressure gauge set and the rubber rotted away with age, I just replaced it with fresh hose + clips and no leaks

had to do the same on my main pump as one of the new hoses made up by a pipe specialist again split at one end (i suspect poor quality or incorrect rubber hose used) so I had to cut off the ferule to get to the barbed fitting underneath, again new fuel hose and proper clip then it was fine for the couple months I needed it to last for

ideally gauge needs to be rated for fuel, but for the limited use its going to have it shouldnt be a problem. I would at least rise the gauge out with water so its not sat for any length of time with fuel in. obviously make sure its fully dry before you use it again
