1986 cabrio doesn't (shouldnt!!) have this pipe, instead the pump is fed from the fuel reservoir which is topped up by the lifter pump in the tank.

can you ID the pipe in this picture:

Did you ever get this to fit right?
Ive brought the one from VW heritage  but its like twice the length so catchs on the brake line mounts on the rear sub frame.

The assembly on the right came from an  1990 GTI Cab that I have in bits right now.
The assembly on the left came from the states years ago and is destined for my long suffering Rivage  :$

If you are hitting the brake mounts I would try and slide item 19 swirl pot / filter housing further towards the front of the car because it does not have a fixed position per se.

The hoses that connect to this should allow you to move it back to allow sufficient clearance.

Hope that helps. 963AADBE-7E7F-4C2B-A49B-B4E3CEB6E8C7.jpeg

Thats great
Why does it need 2x reducers
Why did they not just have a pipe the correct diameter?
Does it need to be 12mm both ends

I was just lucky to be near that stuff when your message came through.
I probably won't be using the reducers, certainly not the upper connection (as seen in the pic) because that's a straight 9/10mm ID connection. I have erred when I included that in the picture.
Besides, I much prefer the assembly on the right, it's tidier with less leak paths.

The upper hose is 10mm ID (to item 12)
The lower hose is 12mm ID (to fuel pump)
