Fuel filter size help!!

Post

Hi

I am currently trying to change the fuel filter on my mk1 gti 1.6

The one I bought pictured on the left doesn't fit and it's meant to be for a mk1 gti.

The filter on the right is the one which came from the car. Part number seems non existent !!

Could anybody help with what the filter on the right is?

It looks like the inward fuel line has been changed to a braided line and the new filter is too small to thread.

Any help appreciated.

Yes that's the right filter on the left, there should be a brass adaptor screwed in one end.
Have you a picture of your fuel lines in the engine bay?

You can see the adaptor here.

Just noticed you posted up a picture of the old one fitted in another thread and the fuel hoses look normal.

Find the adaptor and you should be fine just make sure you fit it the right way around as I can't see an arrow indicating the flow on your new filter?

The one in the link I posted above shows the arrow and the direction the fuel should flow through it.

FYI - fuel comes in at the back of the engine bay/ filter and flows towards the front of the car.

Thanks Mark
I don't seem to have an adaptor .   Any ideas where I could get one ?
I'll have to get a picture and send it on.

The inward thread seems too large for the filter. The outward fits perfectly

The little brass adaptor usually comes with a new  fuel filter.
There is someone selling a metering head with a picture of the filter and adaptor fitted which they may not need as an old fuel filter in no use to anyone.

I may have an old one in my tool box but I will need to check the condition as I used to use them to undo my gearbox fill and drain plugs as they are the right size for such a job.
You can have it for the cost of postage if I can find one.

Hi Denis,

We can get one of these from VW Classic Parts for you should you get stuck. Part number C035-133-529/C, the price is £40.81 - they are listed by VW as a non-return valve.

Hope that helps
Andy

Hey up

I have some fuel filters, I'm sure they have the adaptor on them, they have washers as well,  I will have a look at taking one off and posting a picture up, what's your engine code?

Cheers Daz

I had a look and I don't have any left.
If you do buy another filter make sure it comes with one as most of the "branded" ones do.

I think Andy BBT is thinking of something else as £40.81 is alot for a little bit of metal with a hole in it and as most fuel filter at £10 have one fitted?

Mann WK618 is the one that fits.

Other option but not 100% sure on this but I think I read it somewhere…. is fit the later bigger fuel filter but you will need a bigger jubilee clip to hold it in place.

Hengst H84WK03 Fuel Filter - OE Ref: 893133511 | AVS Car Parts

Bigger later filter.
