Braided Fuel Lines

So I’m been on a long time restore but getting there hopefully done for summer. When i pulled the fuel lines off my cabriolet they were shot so I got myself some braided ones.. I put them all in when I was rebuilding but now have hit a snag of them being too long in the engine bay.. so I’ve pulled them back off again. The plan is to cut them down and fit new end at the pump end..

Now here comes the problems. No matter what I do the just don’t want to fit right on the firewall nor come thought the leg hole..

Any ideas.. I’m lost what do to to make them fit even well ish..
