1.8 GTI Injector Seats

A question I know must have been asked a million times.

However couldn't find an exact answer.

I've a later engine, going into an earlier car. Engine's having a full overhaul.

So why it's still in the shop I'm thinking of refreshing the injectors/ seats etc.

Now, it's the newer type with airshroud injectors + seats - little tube out the back and impressive looking brass inserts poking out the head.

I can't however find anywhere that stocks new airshroud injectors, or Infact can I find how the aux air bit works… Not sure whether it's worth the effort to reimplement ? Was blocked off when I got the engine.

So, first question - does anyone know where air shroud injectors are available?

Second; I assume the earlier type injectors can be put in with the older seats? Looking to this as can see the injectors for circa 27.50 each.

Can't find the correct seats though?!

Air shroud injectors are availible and are the seats as I replacing mine not that long ago, I'll try and find where I got them from.
You need to remove the seats while the head is off as they will break into little bits when you try to remove them as they are plastic and little bits will fall into your engine.
I know rubjonny has said there is not real differance with the air shroud system as he as tried with and without it running. I think the  idea is to add an extra little bit air to the fuel while it's being injected into the engine to make a sort of mist?
You can still run the air shroud injectors with out the air running, just blank the holes off, there may be a hole in the rubber boot just before the throttle body if you have the later boot to match the air shroud injectors.
I'll find some pictures and info.

Thanks for the tip, had them removed prior to reinstall!

I think purely on the price of the injectors it's looking more worthwhile to go with the older style.

Although I have a old turbo kit to stick on at somepoint … Not sure if the extra air might have a bigger benefit in that case.

Argh! Looks like this weekends reading… Kjet airshroud ha.

Have look at my build thread (link below), I replaced mine for the DX engine and the part number is displayed on the picture.

I got mine from VW Heritage at the time.
