Does anyone have a guide?

Hello,
I was just wondering if anyone had a "how to" or any info at all for a mk1 golf with a CE1 fusebox and an engine swap to MK2 GTI 8V digifant.
If anyone has done this or has any info I would be very grateful.
Thanks

If the mk2 Digifant (PB) is the same as the mk1 Digifant (2H), maybe start there?

Whip

Noun - Car

When the steering wheel was first put into use in automobiles, it was called the whip. The term has now been generalised to classify any automobile.

Thanks, i've bought a car with it done but its never run. It won't spark.
Its had new switch unit, coil, dizzy and leads. I'm assuming its been wired correctly but think i may have to take out the engine bay loom and start again. So just looking for any info from anyone that has already done the conversion.

Its a strange conversion as I'm not sure what the major benefits are of changing one engine for a similar one….

Anyway I've done some tests and I'm getting batt volts at the switch unit.
When I check voltage across the coil when I turn the ignition on I only get constant millvolts and not volts then a drop. As expected?
Plug on the side of the dizzy I get batt volts with ignition on pins 1 and 3. (No change to coil voltage if I earth out centre pin).
I was thinking of checking the ECU. Power to it?
There is no ECU relay on the CE1 fusebox….?

I'll work through a few more tests on the forum and see what I can come up with but if you have any ideas of how to test the ECU has power that would be helpful.
Thanks

This might be of use if you want to check the ECU has power:

a2resource.com has the pin outs of the CE2
I would check that your hall sender is working and that the icm passes the tests, it is very easy for the hall sender to break and short out the icm.  Then there is the proverbial bad Digifant controller.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

Thanks for the info. The 53 relay was in. It clicks when ignition is switched on. I have power to the ECU.
Due to the fact the wiring has changed and I don't know what has been done I really need to check every wire in the wiring
diagrams I think and make sure I have a good loom first.
Bit of a job…
So I found Jonny's post and docs for jetta89.pdf which will be a great help.
I'll also check the hall sender.
Thanks for the info and assistance. It will run…..one day
