What alternator do I need

Does anyone know which is the correct alternator for a 1.5 engine?

Do you have a Bosch style or a Motorola style, that is do you have a plug on cable with 3 wires (motorola) or a Bosch that uses one large cable and ring connector and a smaller blue wire with a ring connector.

I know that when I replaced my oem alternator on my 81 Golf Diesel I had a rebuilder take it from the 50 or 60Amp to a 90Amp.

I also had to run a new cable to the battery as I went from the Motorola plug to a ring connector.

I went from a 660CCA battery to a larger 1200CCA battery, and wanted to make sure that I could charge the battery more efficiently, and the 1200 sure made starting the diesel on cold mornings more enjoyable.

I did have to modify my radiator shroud a wee bit
When the Battery guy tried to install the new battery it was about 1 to 1 1/2 inch longer than the old, and I marked the shroud, then removed it and Beat a nice Ding to accommodate the new battery size.

I got 10 years out of a 5 year battery…

Thanks for the reply. I have the ring style but it doesnt seem to list this when looking on line. Am I correct in thinking my original should be 45amp?

Yes the early ones were low amperage that is 60 or less.  The later ones can go from 90 to 120 if rebuilt.
