Hi guys I have searched this and a lot of posts have links that don't seem to work.
I bought a gear stick surround with brand new gauges fitted however first problem is that they have no bulbs or holders can you buy these separate.

Secondly how do you wire them up, the voltage one is simple but please help on the others

Thirdly am I correct in thinking I have volts, oil temp and oil pressure gauges

If its a gti 81-83 the wires should be there for the oil temp too.

Loads of help on Google for wiring. You will need the correct senders if you don't have them. Can't remember if I used the existing temp sender (already there for the MFA temp reading) or not, not sure if MFA is 150 and the gauge is 170.

For the oil pressure sender, be aware that you need a sender with the correct switch for the oil pressure warning light/buzzer if replacing the existing switch and not using a spare outlet on the block/head. Also the correct range (5 bar or 10 bar) and most on ebay are some weird US thread that is almost the correct metric (M10?) but not quite.

Not sure about bulbs but try this site;

Cheers for that. What do you mean by the spare outlet on head are there two then is the mfa powered by the one on the filter housing.

Am I right in thinking this is what I need for the oil filter housing for the buzzer and the vdo gauge to work

The standard set up on a 1.8 GTI is (I think!) 3 oil tappings, two for the pressure warning switches and one for oil temp. There may more a spare outlet or you would have to use a splitter/doubler if required. None GTI MFA cars will have just the two oil pressure switches and poss a blanking plug in the other orifices, or again use a splitter/doubler on one of the outlets.

80 PSI is about 5.5 bar so I guess its about right for a 5 bar gauge. Seems strange they list it as PSI and not bar……. At that price, I'd keep a look out for a cheaper second hand one.
