Wiring of Temperature reader

Hello people,

Iīm new aroud here and I saw a lot of topics of our beloveds MK1, my reason to register here is because I did an engine swap from a MK2 Digifant II engine to my 1983 Golf  C (carburated) MK1.

The question that I now have is the following:

Does the temperature reader in the MK1 original board can sucessfully read the temperature sender sensor from a Golf 1992 MK2 ? Given that the MK2 sensor sender is OEM.

Also as aditional gauge I do have the OEM gauges from a GTI MK1, can those sucessfully read the sender unit from the MK2 ? O_oI appreciate beforehand any ideas or thoughts on how to read the temperature from this OEM Mk2 Sensor sender.

regards

Diego Mora from Costa Ricaīs MK1 Club.

Yes.

I have a 93, and a 92 Digi and am using the single pin senders from a 84 Cabriolet.

I have a why I hate plastic parts thread in the how-to's.
The Digi has 2 pins, because of the plastic flange.
one is the sense, and the brown the ground.

If you convert off the Digi Plastic flange, you can still sue single pin senders, and the CTS sender off of a 16V.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Ok I see,

But will it work the way I want? Reading the sensor of a MK2 digi, the two pinned black one right next to the coolant temp sensor, with the original gauges from the dashboard or the ones from the GTI MK1?

I not sure if you meant that I can connect the sensor without the ground, but maybe Iīm not following you jaja since pretty much I donīt know what CTS is, and my Digi II its 8V.

Can you clarify me if it can work both sides, I mean like  the only differece betwen MK2 and MK1 is the ground?

Yes it will work, the Black connector or the blue one will need a ground to the 2 pin sensor.
You can take the connector and the sense wire is normal, but you will need to take the ground wire and
ground it.

Because the Digi has a plastic flange and is insulated from the engine ground.

If you convert to the older flange.
I still hate plastic parts, but thanks Tolusina. | VW Vortex - Volkswagen Forum

Then you can use single pin senders, and the sensors work normally.

If you add a ground to the 2 pin, then everything is okay.

Wow, you really helped me, I was not sure if I could do such thing.

Oh, and converting it to the aluminum casting, you get to use the 16V CTS and that is more reliable than the Blue CTS on the DIgi.  I know, I used to change them yearly.
