I fitted a loom upgrade and the difference in the lights as really noticeable, you get the full 12v from the battery instead of about 10v as the current has go to the fuse box, to the light switch then back to the headlights it's a long way to go and can cause the head light switch to melt or worst case catch fire!
A well worth upgrade and that's how most modern car headlights work.

The only thing I have found is the parking lights don't work as normal, if I try to leave just one side on with the indicators they only work with the passengers side and the 2 front side lights come on and passengers side rear if I try the drivers side there is nothing on the front and just the drivers side rear.
I've left all the original wiring in there so if it all goes wrong I can simply plug the original wiring back in.
I'll try and find a link to who was selling them.
edit…. I can't find the link at the moment but found a few on eBay,
They look good quality but not seen them or used this kit, it's a 4 headlight kit but check which type of spot lights you have as kit is for upto 87 pre clipper body kit.
They sell the another kit for later cars.

There is a few about, I think classic VW and VW heritage also sells kits.
You could make your own as there's a lot guides on the net on how to and where to buy the bits. I just did not have the time to source all the bits and make one so took the easy option.

You take your whimpy voltage headlights, and with new connectors (ceramic work great) you get brighter lights.
The usual voltage on the headlights @ 11.25-11.5Vdc.
After relaying the lights you will get 13.5-13.75Vdc.
You will also take the current load off your headlight switch which makes it last longer.
You can google this look for Daniel Sterns Lighting. He also has a thread about using your turns and side marker lights to blink.
