Stereo wiring

Post

Thanks to a clown melting a cack load of the original wiring I had to rebuild part of the loom.
Part of that was stripping back and removing the original stereo cabling and now I'm looking at fitting a separate loom.

Where should I be getting the live feed from please?

Would rather ask and check than blowing something.

Depends on if you want to stereo to work with out the keys or ignition on or switched on when ignition on.
Either way you will need a permanent live feed.
Back of the fuse box may be best idea as there is earths down there as well or I have seen people cut into the ciggy lighter circuit.

If you want to run it off the ignition, it might be as well to put it on a relay and the draw the feed from the fuse box anyway?

Just a thought.

you'll need a live feed regardless for most if not all modern stereos otherwise they will loose the settings. main thing is do you want the live and earth feeds back to factory, or do you want to wire it separately?

factory its tapped into the same feed as the ciggy lighter, if you follow the loom for that back you'll find it plugs into a spade housing so its relatively easy to repair any previous bodgework to get it all back to standard.

if wired separate then use one of the P spades with an inline fuse, earth straight to the chassis or one of the earth claws.

for the switched live factory late cabs are fed from the ignition switch key-in-ignition live to pin S, same feed as the electric hoods.  if you would rather ignition live use one of the G spades, 1, 2 ,3 or 5

Thanks guys, I am going through a similar issue myself at the moment with the campaign wiring.

I have decided to remove all of the old stereo wiring and plan to take the 12v feed from the cigarette lighter and 12v switched live from ignition switch.

Right.
I'm a fool.
P spade?
Got the original feed from the foggy and it's got power.
Looks like I need a new ISO block as the one I have is ballsed
While I'm at it….
The red wire/yellow wire.  Am I mad or am I supposed to swap them over or something.

round the back of the fusebox you have a bunch of spade terminals, P are permanent live, G are accessory :)http://www.clubgti.com/showthread.php?219775

yes with the ISO standard for some mad reason they thought yellow should be live, and red should be ignition live. Obviously there were no electricians on the advisory panel, or not enough of them :lol:not only that but VW decided to be stubborn and swap the live and ignition feeds over vs ISO standard, so yes when wiring aftermarket to VW you need to swap the red and yellows over on the stereo wiring using the bullets provided.

plus as above VW dont usually add an ignition live either, so you need to run your own.
