Speedo doesn't return.

Hi ,

Something is wrong with my speedo gauge . It's an early type of speedo . I have bought new cable . The mileage is shown correctly while the speed indicator is going to end and doesn't return . Is there any difference between the transmission end of the cable and gauge end ? I haven't noticed one .

Automatic/manual
year and model.

Speedo doesn't work, but the odometer does?
or is it that the speedo works but doesn't register correctly.

and the odometer works fine.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Hi , Briano .
sorry for incomplete info

It's a 4-speed manual transmission .  1978 year model .
Yes, the speedometer doesn't work . It goes straight to 220 and further as I start the movement . The odometer works fine .

I would look for a Automotive Electric shop that specializes in Speedometer repair, there isn't to much to a Speedo, It could be as simple as the gear is bad.  If the ODO is run by the same cable, so if the odo is good, then the Speedometer may have bound. There is a Clock Spring and a compensator that could be fouled….
To be honest it has been years since I had one apart and that was a SMITHS in my Midget….. I have replaced ones in my Cabbies but it wasn't more than needing to set the mileage.

I know over here there are shops that do nothing but speedos, as the one I was familiar with Calibrated all the cops speedometers… and they weren't cheap but from what I heard they were good. There are probably similar ones over there.
