Wiring between Alternator and solenoid - where can I get it?

Hello.  Taking advantage of lockdown and started to re look at my 83 Campaign Golf which has not moved for 3 years.

The wiring between the Alternator and Solenoid is us.  Where is the best place to get suitable replacement wiring?

Thanks Moray.

The best thing you can do is to get a new battery cable at your parts store besure that it has a couple of extra crimps where you can use a large gauge wire to the alternator, and extra bolt ons can be merged to the main cable.

I don't know why they double routed the cable from the alternator to the starter to the battery, but it is better to have separate wires to each…

Ahhh, so that is what the second wire that goes to the starter is for! I knew there were 2 wireson the positive terminal as there are 2 bolts, couldn't for the life of me work out what the second was for!

My rebuild thread I will try and keep up to date: here

No………
The starter has 2 wires, one big honking one to the Solenoids large lug.  The Second one is to the solenoid from the Ignition switch and is a itty-bitty wire in comparison. If you attach direct battery to the itty-bitty one you will get immediate Starter engagement…and if you are in front of the car and it is in gear you will Break your knees, or beat the heck out of your chins…….

On most Starters you have a braided shielded wire from the other side of the Solenoid to the actual motor.  The is the Main power to the Starter from the Solenoid.  The Starter motor picks up ground or earth from the case being bolted to the transmission.

From the Battery refer to the Bentley/Haynes for the number of wires off of each Terminal.

There are but a few.  Some of those are what is called fusible links.

yeah, I know there is a small on on a spade - that's the ignition, and the one that bolts on from the battery. Thing is, on my starter the battery in, is quite a long thread, and there were 2 nuts on it, so I've assumed that there must be 2 cables that connect to that main lug.
It's 20 years since I took it off so I don't remember. Maybe the 2nd nut was on there as a safetly lock nut!!
To be fair, I haven't checked the manual. I'm saving the job of 'guess what wire goes where' until I get really desperate for something to do!

Yes there are 2 nuts… Screw the one down, place the Cable lead on it, then screw the other one tight, and using 2 spanners move the 2 nuts in opposite directions to Lock the nuts firmly against the cable..

Outer most nut to tighten and the inner nut to loosen will act as a Double or lock nut.  Me I usually spin the one nut against the post to bottom it out, then the cable and the Top nut with a lock washer…
