Relaying the Headlights question

Post

I am working on making a wiring harness as per the http://www.cabby-info.com/Files/RelayingTheHeadlights.pdf link suggests.
I have low 2 beam and 2 high beam lights in the grill. I am going to make adaptations to the harness to make the set of high beams work.

My question is this. My car has some Halo around the low beam lights and the indicator also illuminates, There is a wiring tee that goes to the low beam and indicator lights in the bumper. My question is, will this stop working when I install the new harness as per link? What would I need to do to make them work , if so?

(I think I had the high beams on in this picture, so I don't think the high beams in the grille come on normally) IMG_2756.JPG

If they "t-ed" the halo lights on the low beams that is one thing, if they have them as DRL (daytime running lights) that is different.

Are you buying a Loom pre-built, or making your own?

Here is how I did that on my Cabriolet manually.

But you can buy looms pre-built cheaper than you can make your own.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

I have much rather made my own Wiring harness. Since I have the parts necessary here anyway. Plus I know it is  done to my standards .
I tend to over analyse a situation and plan for the worst case scenarios, but this turned out to be working out just as planned.

You got a nice walkthrough of your project. Although I have to share that I am not a fan of the crimp connectors, you have used. I much rather use the heat shrink type of crimp connectors. I used a different type of relay, as well. It allows me to have a left and right separate circuit rather than splicing two wires together. I also have redone all the headlight connectors as they use 16 gauge for the pigtails and I much rather had it all in 14 gauge. I used a ton of zip ties to make a nice wiring harness, which I put inside 3/8wire tubing.

Apart from that, we have done pretty much the same thing

Hi all - I’m doing much the same thing on my Cabby GTi. I’ve put in the wiring loom from ebay (which seems pretty good & simple). Essentially you plug the feed to the relay into the normal NS light plug, and the new loom to battery +,  new loom sockets to both near & offside bulbs & separate earth for both. Simples. The OS original socket that did fit into that bulb is now redundant

but I have 2 questions - first the sidelight doesn’t now work on the OS - it’s neither bulb nor holder - any ideas why (it does if the old plug is put back on the main bulb).

second - please don’t grimace - I have new main lights with halos, which I want to have on all the time whilst driving (DRL). Where would you advise I find a switched + in the engine bay (sorry if that’s a really stupid question!j

thx. Hereford Steve.

Well to have the halo's on whilst driving, the simplest thing to do is to turn on the DRL position of your light switch (1click)

I don't have side markers per se, or rather no bulbs or lights in my side markers on the fenders. I was talking about the lights in the front bumper in my post. Those lights come on with the DRL.
