Odometer stopped moving

Post

Not sure what's happened but I pressed the button to zero my miles and the Odometer has stopped turning round. Is this a major problem and an expensive fix? Any advice would be helpful thanks

Not really.
The cause is that you reset your mileage while the car was in motion.Don't do that.

You issue can be one of the following:
Teeth missing from the odometer gear.
Odometer Gear slipping on the shaft.

How to resolve:
Remove the Bezel, and switches to facilitate the removal of the clocks.
Carefully disassemble the Mylar off the clocks and remove the front from the rear assembly.
Remove the speedo from the cluster assembly.
Look at the Red Gear usually on the VDO cluster (name on the face plate).

If the Gear isn't missing any teeth, then you can carefully move the gear and clean the shaft.
Apply a small drop of super glue to affix the gear back to the shaft.

When removing the Needle Use 2 small screw drivers to pry it up and off the spindle TAKE GREAT CARE.

When Returning the needle position it on the back side of the stop pin to insert it, then move it over the stop to pre-load the spring.

Thanks for all that info Briano, I needed a sit down after reading and watching the links 😅

The red dial has very slowly moved onto the number 2 but that's it. Have you fixed one of these before and do you live within 50 miles of Shrewsbury? 😂

Yes I have done this repair on about 4 different cars that I have had the pleasure to work on or own.  The gears are avail as a replacement part but they are expensive….The last one I needed for a Saturn was 40 dollars, and you had to know the teeth count.

Audi's and dubs are a little bit different.

I am roughly about 4,025 miles out of your range.
I live across the Pond outside of Atlanta, Ga. USA.
