Mystery Wipers never turning off

Hey guys and Gail's and rubjonny as your a legend but away…..

Since I've got my Mk1 Jetta on the road and only ever since I got it ready for mot, the wipers on the front once put to any position would be on fast mode, except in the top position where it would go moderate speed, only if you cycled the ignition when the wiper is almost at the bottom of the dash will it stop in the normal place, the motor fitted is mk4 and the electrics are all mk4 later version from an 03 ASZ golf

Another thing I've noticed is if you turn the hazards on with everything including ignition off, the fan can be switched on at any speed and the wipers work as they are meant to do! Any ideas as I think something is piggy backing somewhere, I'm good with wiring diagrams and have access to Elsa! Any help folks would be grand

check the wiring to the motor, it should have 5 wires to work properly with mk1 electrics/relay/stalk

reading it again, when you say 'all the electrics from the mk4' do you mean its had a complete loom conversion done? mk4 dash and stalks as well? if so who did it? sounds like they haven't done it quite right
