Instrument cluster PCB

Ive got 2 instrument clusters, one with a tach (which im using, assuming it came from a gti), and one with a clock (assuming its standard 1.6 d)

the blue pcb on the gti cluster is pretty shoddy and worn, whereas the blue pcb on the diesel cluster is pretty decent condition.

i'm trying to find out if i can swap the pcb's over?

im not really interested in keeping the diesel one working, im quite happy to sacrifice it to get the gti cluster into a better state. I've had a good look, and i think all of the track is the same, the only real difference is resistors and other components in different slots on the top of the cluster.

i'm thinking i can solder new resistors in place on the diesel pcb to match the gti pcb, then it should be a straight swapdoes anyone have any information on this at all?

Soldering mylar is a NO-Win situation.  The heat needed to solder the connection melts through the mylar.

That is why most everything on the mylar is press/crimp fit.  

They make conductive glues (epoxy) that should work, but you have to have clean areas that aren't prone to flexure.  

I am not saying you can't solder on mylar, but it take a really low temp solder and iron, that still may melt the mylar, a steady hand and johnny be quick, quick, really quick, almost as fast a a blink.  

I say this as I have worked on or about mylar since the mid-70's and I thought I was a really good solderer till I came up against a broken mylar trace…. I learned.

I had a suspicion that it wouldnt solder well!

I've had a quick look online,  do you think an empoxy like this 8331-14G | MG Chemicals 8331 Liquid Adhesive, 14 g | RS would be suitable?

As for cleaning the pads,  itll be a delicate procedure but im sure it cant be too difficult.

Looks like what I have used in the past to re-glue tabs to the de-misters.

Seems a little pricey, but google says that is in the ball park.
