Indicators not very bright

Post

Hi,

My indicators work but they are not very bright. Strange thing is they are brighter when using the hazards. Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

Without testing, I'm guessing! But it sounds like a bad turn signal switch. It sounds like you are getting voltage drop across the switch. Also check you have the correct bulbs fitted, 21W if I recall correctly.
When you say the hazards are brighter, do you mean they are working normally or are they still dimmer than they should be?

Thanks for your help. Unsure if they are working correctly. Are they going to be slightly dimmer as it's an old vehicle or should they be the same as any other vehicle using none led bulbs?

They should be the same brightness if using the hazard switch or the indicator stalk, just been out and checked my car.

You can get dust or dirt in the switch or sometimes the contact needs a little bend to get a better connection.

They should be as bright as long as the correct bulbs are fitted. On older cars though you can lose some of the reflective material on the reflector which doesn't help. If you know how, it's best to unplug an indicator and connect it directly to the battery, this will give you an idea of bright it should be.

Most new modern cars use a orange bulb in a clear lens,  our old cars have a clear bulb behind a thick bit of orange plastic with lots of bumps on it to disperse the light so they are not going to be as bright.
