1980 Tin Top 1.8 KR

Hi All,

Had a little search but some of the info had disappeared.

Issue 1 - I'm going to the dark side & have 3P airlift ready to fit but they have mentioned upgrading my Alternator & Battery.
My Battery is only approx. a year old but my alternator died just before the car went away for Winter so I'm looking for some suggestions on upgrades / replacements to help support the compressors.

Engine is a 1.8 KR from a mk2.

Issue 2 - One side of my indicators have stopped working. Lights up a little on the dash but nothing to the lights - front or rear.
Checked the lights to make sure they are working & one side works fine. Any tips for things to check before I get them re-wired.

Thank you in advance : )

Check all your fuses, and Ground to the rear indicators.
You can add additional grounds using a length of wire to the ground points on your Lights, to a Bumper bolt.

Grounds do get accidently knocked off with throwing things in the boot.

Alternator's need to know which type that you have, the Motorola (wires plug in to a socket on the Voltage Regulator)
Bosch that has 2 Studs one large and one little.  The little one should have a blue wire on it.  If the blue wire is disconnected, and or the wire is broken, then you can get a Bad Alternator indication as the battery will not "tickle" the field to start charging.

The Bosch comes in 3 varieties that I know of over here,
55-60, 90, and 120Amp.

The Motorola I think goes from 55, or 65A…

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

sorry just seen, this, the lights can be faulty hazard switch try on/off a few times or half way.  give the indicator relay a love tap also. lack of use and moisture kills these switches and relays.

Thank you 😊
Ordered a new relay & that didn't work but I'll have a look into the Hazard Switch!
