CE2 box and loom questions

MK2 loom issues.

Hi All,
I'm about halfway through fitting the CE2 loom and box, MK2 dash is now in and more importantly fixed in!

A complete MK2 loom is going in and I've just realised the fuse box must be on the off side foot well in a MK2 and not the near side location of the MK1, any thoughts on whether to mount the box with new brackets on the drive's side or extend the wiring so FB can go in to the OE mounts on the passenger side?

Cheers :ocf_emoticons__clap:Guessing the answer is going to be new bracket as the loom is mint but I haven't added the engine loom  yet (most of which will not be used as I have a BAM in it with it's own FB in the engine bay) and guessing that will be too short as it enters the engine bay on the near side, can't see there being a massive issue with the rear section running along the drives side!

20v looms actually fit much easier in a MK1 with the fusebox on the left side, it pretty much all reaches without extending, ecu in scuttle. in a mk2 with fusebox on the right all the fusebox side wires will need extending.

whether thats easier than redoing all the CE2 dash wiring to the left side is up to you :)

main thing if you move it to the right side is make sure you have the space for the fusebox, and are you happy to drill 2 holes for the engine & headlight looms

Not sure of the best way to play it with the 20v loom!

I've only had the car a short while, purchased it running/drivable /MOT'd etc but it had a few electrical problems i.e no main beam, wipers not working correctly and I found the wiring to be a mess when I started trying to sort things out, the CE1 board was looking US as well (I'm more mechanical than electrical) so I found a completed CE2 loom in great condition and dash so that's the route I went with.

The 20v conversion has it's own 4 way fuse box located in the rain tray and a fly by wire throttle, there were a few things using the CE1 loom when I removed it, brake fluid reservoir, thermostat and starter I think!

In a perfect world (lol) I'll put the head lamp harness in and the engine harness so I can connect the starter etc and a new 20v harness as the one that's in at the moment isn't idea (not been made well), does anyone make a plug and play 20v harness do you know?
I haven't traced everything so don't know but I've been wondering how does the 20v harness communicate with the rest of the vehicle/looms or maybe it stands alone with a connection to the fly by throttle only? It has a supply to the 4 way board in the rain tray and from there I've no idea, all the ECU and FBW splices have been done in the same colour cable so tracing it is a nightmare:'(

I make them but my list is long, mine are fully integrated into the engien harness so no random joints for the customer to sort out for the dash sensors etc. I can do them to your spec, I've made a few CE2 mk1 car looms now as well with the fusebox where it should be etc ;)

I always try to use proper VW wiring colours as per factory as well, so it makes life much easier when troubleshooting later on

try James E Looms on facebook and Chris Bellman, they do good work and can supply tacho adaptors as well.

Thanks for the heads up John.

I'm/The Wife … are looking to get this sorted as fast as is possible (going on that there seems to be about 3 people in the country that actually know what they are doing!) and you are busy, I've contacted James and I've got fingers crossed he can help, not too far from me as well.

The car was to be her daily driver after moving offices and she could no long cycle but she is having to use our camper which is less than idea, the last daily she had was a TVR 3000M (1973 model).

This is a great forum with plenty of help so hopefully it will just be a matter of time and it will all work out.

CHEERS EVERYBODY
