Cabby rear speaker mounts behind cards

Help needed replacing the speakers behind the cards please

I have gotten rid of the rotten parcel shelf that was ruined when I had a fairly drastic leak and would like to put speakers back into the cards in the back of my 1984 Cabby 1.8 GTi.

Removing the cards, there's clearly space for them and I read that originally there would have been a 6x4 speaker in there.

Was there a cradle/mount/bracket that should be there to fit or have I bought the wrong size speakers?

Any help would be appreciated, I've searched the forums but found nothing about it as yet.

Many thanks…

I would add that you really need a parcel shelf.
It carries the weight of the rear window when the top is down.  This prevents the top from sagging and placing additional tension on the top when open.  It can lead to premature top failure.

In the archive section I have a how do I re-make my parcel shelf.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.
