I can't help you on repairs, but on my 2 cabbies,  when the Screen blacked, I decided to replace them with JVC  Radios/Media players with bluetooth and hands free with external microphones, they weren't that much and they re 1/3 the size and weight of the OEM (We have a hands free law, and the ticket for getting caught using a Cell or Texting is a 200 dollar sting.

With the New I can play my media off the phone or SD, USB or Aux jack.
