Bentley wiring diagrams for DX K-Jet?

Post

Ive noticed that my Bentley manual says in the wiring diagrams "Main wiring diagram-Cabriolet 1990" and the same for the Cabriolet 1991 that they are digifant systems.

My car is a 1992 Rivage DX K-Jet.

Am i being daft here? are they still the right diagrams?

Im clearly not using a Digifant system

Hi Brad well I'm the other way round so to speak! 😂
My Cabrio has the Digifant II system so I use the Bentley workshop manual.

In your case the DX wiring might be ok but you do have to remember that this manual is for the north American market! 😉

If I were you I'd do a test on a handful of wires just to see if the colour coding is the same etc… 🤔

Also I can't see VW making any major changes to the core electrics so late in the production life of a car, just wouldn't make much sense! 😉

Maybe Briano1234 from North America can help? 🤔 ☺️ 👍🏼

Ya'll have a funny way of classifying these guys.
93 rivage dx k-jet…..

Over here they were simply called Cabriolets, then there is the style additions, as in Wolfsberg, Aigner, …… which were trim level differences to the basic car.

All 93's came with the 1.8 Digifant 2 fuel injected engines.

The variations were the latter 89's to 91's came with the "California' Digifant1 or "C" class with a odb scanner port that semi worked.  Whereas the Digifant 2's ODB didn't work for spit.

So where as I can comment on the Digi, and the Bentley for the USA as being accurate (semi) there are some issues with it, the electrics for it are usually spot on.

I know that VW made wiring changes between the 80, and 81 Westys that aren't in the Haynes on the diesel engined cars….I can't swear to the differences between the DX and the 2h Digi's that I am used to.

What I have seen over the years, is that some of the basic systems ( ie: horns, turns, hazards) have the same wiring colors and basic fuse and relay positions have stayed the same, there are vast differences in the fuel relays, positions of said, as there was a TSB that relocated some fuel pump relays in the CIS.

There is also a heap of things that are diagrammed better in the later versions of the Haynes/bentley than were in the earlier versions.

Take the light switch on the 80-81 westy I have it shows a blank box for the switch with wires in and out of it,
whereas the later Cabriolets show the switch innards, the wires and what they are connected to.

Remember, that Haynes, and Bentley are just re-publishers of the Factory manuals, and that changes mades by VW/Bosch may not have been updated to the base book.

Well you know that all Cabriolets were made in Europe, and is probably why they are "better" looking, and running.  :)

Brian,
I was at this year's AGM and as 'Guest of Honour' I talked to a lot of people and of course not everyone knows my mk1.
Naturally happy to tell them what I have upto the point when I mention the 'Digifant II' and you see their expression change. 😂

So yep all Cabrio's are built in Europe of course but if you live in England they are rarely the exact same.

Just those few miles can make a heck of a difference.
But even the specs between Austria 🇦🇹 and Germany 🇩🇪 can be different.

Go figure! 😂

Ok back on subject. ☺️👍🏼

Yeah i think im best grabbing hold of a few different wiring systems and checking them as per the Bentley. Will be the best way i think.

I got the Bentley from hearing it is really good but not realising that it is an American version lol. Either way i find it brilliant but might get myself a Haynes manual too. Stripped down a mk2 golf 8v gti engine and rebuilt it from one of those without ever doing one before when i was 17. Must be decent lol

Mk2 Scirocco covers later K-jet injection system as that was used up to 1992, Scirocco manual will also cover the running gear, brakes, suspension, steering and some of the electrics.

Red covered manual is the one you want, I can't find one on ebay at the moment….

edit… Just found one.

I use this manual and the Brown Mk1 golf manual to work on my car.

1988 Mk1 Golf GTi Cabriolet 1.8cc DX, K-jet. Daily drive. 317,000 miles and counting
1978 Mk1 Scirocco GLS 1.6cc FR, Webber carb. Weekend toy.

this is becasue the DX engine doesnt exist in the american market, and the bentlye only covers US cars.

This is why the brown mk1 haynes which specifies cabrio and scirocco on the cover is the best one for UK owners, it has the correct DX wiring diagrams in the supplement towards the back ;)

The DX engine is a basic kjet (CIS) injection engine, nothing clever about it at all. no fuel control modules, no lambda (O2) sensor, no catalyst, nothing. Just a distributor with vacuum/weights advance inside and a spark (TCI) module to trigger the coil.

The US spec mk2/cabs with the kjet engines are different beasts, there are some similarities but they have some kind of catalyst and lambda controlled fuel management, usually have a lame cam, sometimes lower compression etc

You will probably see some imports however, and the bentleys do cover the basic CIS system pretty well, but the wiring diagrams are only for the US stuff with some kind of 02 control system added on top
