Hello, recently bought my mk1 but I've noticed a few cut wires near my carb, does anyone know what these wires are for and where they are meant to connect? My car is a 1.8 Auto 8v 89 IMG_4648.JPG IMG_4649.JPG IMG_4650.JPG IMG_4651.JPG

look at the black one close, is it actually brown with a black cover? if so its rad fan after-run and goes to the fat brass switch on the top without a plug on.

the other is ignition live, its possibly for the carb heater which is near the bottom of the carb on the front. it should have a wire pokin out with a spade on

you have 2 electric valves round the back, they should both have ignition live check the lower one has a plug on it

Thank you. So in the pic what is that brass nut with a spade poking out meant to be for? There's nothing connected to it at the moment so just need find out what is meant to be connected to it.

the one on the front of the carb is the thermoswitcvh for the radiator fan after-run, as I say if the black cut wire is actually a brown wire with a black cover then this goes here

hello the black wire is a solid black wire. Its connected to a bit on the carn it looks like a bolt, possibly some kind of sensor? the wire was hanging on by a few threads but i pilled it and it just ripped off.

the other cable is black with a yellow line down it.

ah I see it now, thats the carb heater.  I think you can open them up to fix a snapped wire?  once sorted this needs an ignition live, there should be a spade on the loom somewhere for it. make sure the snapped end doesnt short anywhere it'll pop a fuse

Okay,  the solid black cable goes to the heater - I can try fix this but it looks like the old wire going to it was moulded inside black glue with solidified.

The second wire the black with yellow down it is ignition live?
