Where the hell does it go!
As approximately 20 years have elapsed since I took the wiring loom out (not entirely) of my engine bay, I have no idea where the heck it should route. By luck another rebuild thread I'm following has shown me where the loom runs across the back of the engine bay, but as the chunk the runs round the front, I can't find anything.
So - anyone got any pics of where the loom runs past the battery and round the front of the bay? I can;t even remember if it goes in front of the radiator, or along the panel underneath!
Thanks

If you have a look at my project, see link below, there are some pictures before restoration and some afterwards showing the loom around the battery area then dropping down to below the radiator then along the front to feed the front lighting.
No doubt you might have a few extra wires for a GTI.
Hope this helps

I've pretty much blown most of my afternoon going through your build thread (page 26 so far) - very impressive work!
I had a Silver 82 GL with blue interior about 20 years ago - I originally bought it to rob bits off for my GTi, but I didn't know the interior was blue and it was a 5 door. Cost me £50 as it has been in an argument with a tree, but it only had 50K on it. I decided it was too good to scrap so managed to get it straight enough to drive and I ran it for a bit, as did a few of my mates. In then end I didn't have the time to keep on top of it, and restore a GTi. Tried to sell it on here but got no takers and in the end it had to go for scrap as I had nowhere to keep it. Shocking.
I've still not finished the GTi, but you thread is very inspiring!

This is my second Silver golf, my avatar is a picture my first Series 1, 3 door 1.6 GLS, however purchased in Germany when in the forces, it had a black interior, spec not available in the UK.
I could not afford a GTI when I was young, always wanted the gizmos rather than the speed.
Probably missed the boat though, if I had restored a GTI, it would be worth much more than my GL.
Still, got a few looks when I took it out today.

Dang, it has been 45 years since I remove the looms out of my 58 AH Sprite mk2, I would hate to think about starting to replace them in position, (not as many wires as a Golf) But I did Label them well but then again I haven't ventured to look at them since I made all new looms from scratch and placed them away in plastic bags and boxes…. Gotta love Lucas, using the wires to protect the 2 fuses…
Good luck, but another place to peruse is the ETKA, as they have pictures of all the looms.
