6 speaker wiring

Post

My front speakers seem to have custom cables. Are these (unused) cables likely to be the originals?

Are these the original speakers?

If the LH and HF units both have their own cables, where are the crossovers?

Now there's a question…

I haven't had time to look into all the wiring for the stereo. The head unit is non-standard and the manual only lists it as having FL, FR, RL, RR. The connector has crimping connectors on it so it is hard to know what was there before. The cab is a Classic Line, so I guess it had a reasonably high-spec system.

I think of "active" as a speaker having it's own amplification built-in.

I have an "aktiv" Hi-Fi system. Each power amplifier is preceded by a line level crossover designed specifically for the unit being amplified. So the each of the six power amps is only amplifying the frequency range of the driver it is connected to.

So what is "aktiv" in terms of car stereos?

EDIT

I just read the aktiv guide. I'll check to see if it done like that tomorrow.

It was VW's attempt at a 6 speaker system, there were two, one self powered speakers in the doors, and then 2 others in the side cards in the rear.

Check the link I showed you above at cabby-info, she has both the acktiv and the non active 6 speaker wiring.

You can also look here, not as colorful as Kammy's

Tips
Large diameter wires are usually grnds or powers
small diameter wires are speaker

To test speaker pairs take the color designated
and touch to a 9Vdc battery you should hear a scratching or popping
