Ventilation, always hot.

Hello guys! I hope i chose the right subforum!

I have a '84 TAS with GTI dash swapped in by previous owner., and pretty weird problem!!
No matter what setting i use, i get hot air blowing in footwell. Blowing increases with more throttle, even though fan is turned off! So when i floor it in 2nd and 3rd gear it fills the cabin with hot air, these days even lowered windows don't help…Whole dash gets pretty warm from hot air inside it, and Hot/cold lever does absolutly nothing even though it moves heater valve lever..
When i select 5th gear, it seems like additional secondary fan turns on, and i cant cruise without burning my right foot (car is lhd). Does that dash have 2 fans? What could be the problem besides cabin heater valve being faulty? Its incredibly annoying now with hot weather outside!

Sounds as if you have 2 problems.

First, the heat is because your heater matrix (core) isn't shut off, and you are running heated air in it.

I would suspect that you need to adjust your heater Valve Cable setting as your cable selector is missing the clip or maladjusted.  If the Clip is missing you can use a couple of small Zip ties. Just make sure your selector lever is in the full cold position, the cable on the valve should be fully extended and the lever against the stop.

It could also be that your heater valve is broken internally, but check the adjustment first.

In the Archive Section I have a how to beef up your heater valves, and after getting 3 that failed for the same crappy glue job, I strongly suggest that.

The Air Diverters blowing wrong is usually a servo or vacuum issue.
As in they are in the wrong positions… www.cabby-info.com has the correct placement of the vacuum hoses.

The different in speeds sounds like a bad ground or iffy motor connection, as well as a possible bad check valve.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.
