Sunroof help needed

Do you need to remove headlining to fit mechanism?

Hi

Got a problem with my sunroof - namely that the plastic rollers - shown in orange in the link below are broken - ive got various ones in different states of brokeness.

https://www.werk34.de/product_info.php/info/p21959_Sunroof-Guide-and-Cable.html

As I see it I have two options:

1. Replace whole mechanism - Do I have to remove the headlining in order to do this?  Dont fancy it tbh….

2. Replace the cables (that seem to come with the new plastic parts) - can only find these at the following place and seems quite expensive.  See below:

https://www.werk34.de/product_info.php/info/p21959_Sunroof-Guide-and-Cable.html

How easy/difficult is this?  Can it be done with the mechanism in place? (panel removed of course)

Any advice would be great!

Thanks
Adam

open roof half way, pull the leading edge of the sunroof trim down to unclip. close roff, slide trim back. all fixings holding roof to mech are exposed, undo and pop roof out the top panel. repair mech as required and refit :)

Thanks, all sorted now - managed to source a MK2 mechanism and panel - just need to adjust the fit - seems to need a lot of pressure to raise the rear of the panel up to flush with the roof - not done it yet as dont want to break the new one!  Might wait till the AGM and rope in a friendly person with a bit of experience to help!

look closely at the 4 corners of the panel, you'll see how the height of the panel is adjusted :) make sure the leaf springs that push the panel up at the back are there and the gubbins they attach to is all ok

thanks again - will take another look - does the roller go into the 'dip' of the leaf spring (i.e. in the first picture you have given is that with the roof fully closed or does the roller still have some distance to go?

Back again - got the front of the roof about right now - but cant get the back right, cant seem to be able to push the panel up enough to get level (still concerned that I will break one of the plastic bits...)

is it definitely all the way shut? remove the winder block wind it 'open' a couple turns and refit, see if the roof closes a little more

Tried that, def. closed all the way - got it better - not perfect but close enough for the moment.

Thinking the new seal may to be tight.

Thanks for your help.
