Steering wheel change

Hello all
i have an 89 gti cab and have got a Wolfsburg wheel to install

first thing I have to do is get the large spline off the column, could I put a small cut in it with a dremmel as it is lodged on very tight?

secondly reading up it says I would need a plastic spacer/washer to stop it catching, does anybody know where I could get one? I've looked on the net but cannot find anything

I've had plenty of luck removing these spline adapters by using an appropriately sized bearing puller. It worked great and, since the adapter is spring loaded, I did not have the unfortunate luck of having to dodge them when they eventually break loose.
