Scuttle rain tray

Post

Hello

Does anyone know if the scuttle rain trays are still available anywhere for a decent price? Seen one on eBay for £150 which is ridiculous but I guess there's a market for them if someone is doing a complete restoration!

I've seen that VW heritage sell the South African one that fits across the whole scuttle like the below. Does anyone have any pics of this fitted to a car so I can see what it looks like???

Thanks

Thanks for the link. Expensive and slow delivery but like I mentioned before that's the market! I remember when I could walk into the dealers and order this for a fraction of the prices that are banded around now!

On a side note does anyone have an pics of the South African one fitted?

So we had some chap on Scirocco register make up replacements for the mk2 Scirocco models.  Very well made and very reasonable in price.

Might be worth tugging on there to see what the deal is for repro mk1 golfs?

Thanks for the tip. I remember actually asking the same guy before and he said he doesn't do golfs! He had mk1 and mk2 scirocco rain trays made up and just recieved a message off him that he still has them available.

Does anyone know if the scirocco ones fit the golfs?

I bought the South African one from Vw Heritage. When i bought it was advertised as original with the correct Photo. It was my complaint to them that made them update the info.

The South African one, goes no where near where it should and the aperture you see in the middle is actually a hole. So rain will go thru it.

I bought an original one from the facebook mk1 Golf parts for sell group. Ask on there.

Thanks for the advice MJV79 on the South African one - I'll steer clear of that one! The carbon fibre one would look odd as nothing else is carbon fibre but again thanks for link.

Does anyone know if the mk1 and mk2 scirocco rain trays fit the mk1 golf??? Does anyone own both cars to see if they fit? It would help me out a lot!!

Thanks!!

Sorry to say but no they don't, I have a Mk1 and a Mk2 Scirocco in the family, you can't buy new genuine Scirocco VW ones only repo but they are a lot thinker than the VW's thin flimsy crappy ones.

I did buy a genuine VW for my Mk1 Golf a few years ago from GPC (no longer trading) and even then thought £25 was over the top as they are so thin..
For the repo Mk1 Scirocco one I paid £40 ish delivery to my door all the way from the Netherlands and it is so much better quality.

I my option £100+ is a complete rip off and if no one bought them at that price sellers would have to bring the price down.

Pictures etc for your info,

That's a shame they don't fit but I guess it was a long shot! I've also seen those group buys but they're obviously redundant now we know they don't fit.

I will just have to wait until they are available for a reasonable price as I am not paying £150 for one! Probably just easier to create my own?

If you don't want to pay £150 , you can have my used one for £145

There must be some one out here with the contacts to  manufacture them?

You can buy new them for other cars a so why not a Mk1 Golf, there is always threads on this subject over the years  so there must be a demand for them as I would buy one if it's in the same sort of plastic as my Mk1 Scirocco one I bought from the Netherlands for £40???

Just a thought …

I'll sell you 2 damaged ones for 100.. lol not sure how you could repair as material is brittle now.  I kept them even though I got the one from the link is posted earlier. 90$ ain't so bad..For something that's getting hard to find.

Thanks Kenneth Cartwright for the link. How much was postage to the UK??

To be honest I think there's a market for them if someone is willing to produce some. There's loads of owners who would be interested!

Spent 120 pounds on other items so approx 20£ postage. Item is same as link.  20160227_211812.jpg 20160227_211823.jpg as you can see is a mould  from a 1993 part. Still does the job.

Ever since I bought my Golf last year Ive been looking for these at a decent price, can't believe what is being asked on Ebay for these but guess it comes down to demand and availability. Id love to be able to manufacture them somehow…its just a flappy bit of plastic after all.
