Removing rear wiper/washer solution?

Post

Has anyone found a good way of covering/plugging/finishing off  the 2 holes in the tail gate?

Quite fancy the look without the gear there but don't want to get involved in patching and spraying.

I don't know about over there, but over here, GOOD Hardware stores sell chromed steel and plastic Plugs in various dimensions (width) that snap in, a little RTV (silicone) under the edge seals them from water migration. Measure the diameter of the hole then look for the proper type of Pipe bung or cover. Either style can be painted to match car color to more easily "hide in plain sight" or in the case of a black rubber bunk look OEM ish.

Then you could also try to find a non-washered boot lid and have sprayed to match….

OEM non-sprayer look depending on wallet, shaving and filling then respray is best. If you are removing, then want a true OEM, you will need to find the interior bits as well so you can't ever tell it was installed there in the First place.  My Two pence.

Most leave the washer fitted, and stick a blind grommet in the wiper hole. That's how I did my Mk2 recently.

My mk1 luckily has no rear wiper as standard, one less hassle, I hate rear wipers.

Maybe enlarge the hole with a cone cutter until it's round enough to take a grommet!?

Certainly, not sure if it'd end up bigger than the wiper hole tho, might look worse.

A round drill bit with a Drill stop so you don't cut through to the inside :)

I have never had good luck with a Stepped drill bit.

Well that was a pleasant surprise, the washer hole is only about 8mm diameter.

Nothing a sticker can't sort out for the short term!
