recaro

had to fit recaro seats

was never happy with factory seat position.
tried modifying the based to lower front edge as my wifes little legs meant she had difficalty pressing clutch pedal all the way.
she found  them extremely uncomfortable & someone had trimmed them in vinyl! in a convertable= burnt legs.

so i purchased some rs turbo seats from an escort as she liked my capri recaros in my e21, i had also got some old opel manta seats but they were not of the same condition.

so set about cutting down the original CC seats that had height adjustability.
managed to get them down to a basic 'T' frame .
then got measuring ……
was determained to get them as low as possible but keep full travel, minus height adjustment .
also wanted to re-centre so actually moved them outward abit.
i had searched on here for ideas on how other had managed it but all looked like seat would sit high, then actually went to view a G60 mk2 for a friend and had a look how they were & they were too high aswell.
RS turbo seat have an extra rail attached to seat frame so would need to make as much room as possible if i had a chance of getting a good seat height.

started by cutting some angle bar & fixing to underside of seats, then added a bar across the front between the 2.
trial fitted this resting on slider and rear resting on the cylinder ( which rotated) so added a block of wood to hold rear up whilst sat in.
too high!
so cut front bar centre out and added another section on top thus lowering the front an inch, this was much better height.
adjusted wood and centred -nice.
then had to work out forward/back stops so both myself being 6'2" and my 5'3" wife could still fit.
with abit of trial & error we found a point that worked ( could of gone back a bit more ).
making sure frame was level marked it all up with sharpy and spot welded it up.
trialed it again and was happy so fully welded it up.
now all i had todo was fit lever……
not that easy, it fouled.
after a few attempts i came up with a solution- cut rod and extend and remount using a left over of l bracket as far forward as possible.

lick of paint =done

Nice work :)

just fyi the mk2 recaros you measured dont have factory bases, so too high.

the proper recaro supplied bases look pretty much the same as what you have made, basically a bit of box section with some holes on the top. Main thing they have over yours is the part the seats bolt to is seperate from the main base, it has 3 bolt holes in the front and back which allows you to adjust the height of the seat if a bit time consuming and awkward

the factory fitted recaro seats have electric height adjust bases, very posh. scirocco and corrado are similar but even lower

also worth noting your seats are ford escort fitment which have an extra frame welded on the bottom, to convert them to be like standard flat base type recaro seats same as VW you can chop that bit off and weld nuts or fit rivnuts into the 6 empty holes:

oh and IIRC fiesta seats are the same as standard/VW seats as well so the linky above would work well for them too :)
