Rear boot paper data sticker replacement

The paper data sticker/ VIN/specification , the one in the rear boot, on my car is quite badly worn.

Has anyone purchased one of these replacements from Holland

They are quite expensive and am reluctant to buy one without seeing an example - which is proving hard to get from the guy running the website.

Shoot if you have your old one and you can read it… A good Photoshop and Avery Label you could do it a lot cheaper….

Your post got me looking through my old stuff and the first two images below are stickers I made up (in 2009 believe it or not!) myself using nothing more than Microsoft Paint.

The template's long since lost on an old PC, but from recollection it wasn't too difficult to do.

You can still easily down load the exact fonts for free if you search the inter-web.

The darker letters on the DIN stickers are 'VAG rounded', and the digits are 'dot matrix', though there's variations of that one.

I did the door jam and paint inspection stickers also, rather than waste sticker paper I did a sheet full, but you'll only need one of each.

The last image is a MK2 Golf sticker.

I didn't do that one, but got it instead from a guy in Germany.

They're €15 for two (they're not identical as one's for the boot, the other the service book).

Postage was €4 but I'd a few other bits in the same packet so can't say what'll he'll charge for stickers alone.

He took Paypal which was unusual, plus it also saved on bank fees.

His English is excellent and as far as I was concerned he was 100% trustworthy but you'll have to make your own mind up.

The stickers were an exact match, right down to the paper used, he can add / remove or adjust codes if you want, for example if your car's had an engine swap or colour change / options since added etc.

All he needs is a decent image of your old one.

I haven't seen him advertise MK1 stickers but he may well be able to do so, might be worth giving him a shout!

Out of curiosity how much is the Dutch seller asking for his?

Thank you very much for your excellent response to my query.

I had thought of trying to do something similar but was unsure of the fonts - so thank you!  The Dutch website wants e49.00 for 2 including postage!!

You certainly made an excellent job I must say.  

Love the bar-code sticker as well - mine is in very poor condition and I have had to remove it prior to full respray.  Again I had been wondering if it would be possible to create a new one.  

I assume you used A4 sticky paper?

I will contact the German chap just in case he offers a MK1 service.

Yes he is working on it.  He sent a 1st draft which was very good but needed a few modifications.  I haven't heard back from him since though!?!>……..

Yes, I used standard A4 adhesive paper.

I haven't tried it yet but I had thought of laminating them on the outer face with clear vinyl. The DIN and paint sticker are relatively well protected being on the inside, but the one for the door jam will need to resist the damp.



 

the problem with most modern options decodes is VW overwrote many of the older codes. here's my list, its the most complete out there IMO. I've searched far and wide, high and low but still some are missing

On both my MK1 and MK2 the paint inspection stickers are on the same rear panel that the DIN stickers are applied to, but on the opposite end (ie. the drivers side for RHD cars) and near to where the light cluster apperture is...

I really need to get a new data sticker for mine, it's completely gone unfortunately, i found a place i can get one made but i need original sticker details!

Obviously colour and vin are not needed, if anyone can post an image for reference of a similar car that would be ace
